New York State Governor Kathy Hochul has signed the New York State 2024 Budget Agreement into law, which contained increases to the State’s minimum wage rates.
Effective January 1, 2024, the minimum wage will increase incrementally over the next few years based on the region where employees work as follows:
Effective Date | New York City, Westchester, Nassau, Suffolk Counties | All Other Counties In New York |
January 1, 2024 | $16.00 | $15.00 |
January 1, 2025 | $16.50 | $15.50 |
January 1, 2026 | $17.00 | $16.00 |
Thereafter, starting on January 1, 2027, increases to the minimum wage rates will be based on inflation using a three-year average of the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (“CPI-W”). The State labor commissioner is directed to publish the adjusted minimum wage rate no later than October 1st each year, with the new rates taking effect the following January 1st.
